"What are your thoughts, Mary?" I inquired, observing her face with an inscrutable expression.

Her prolonged silence made me increasingly uncomfortable. Typically, if Mary found my work commendable, she would offer immediate praise. However, her quiet contemplation and unreadable expression hinted that my creation fell short of her expectations.

I had already applied to be one of the artists featured at the upcoming event in Manhattan, awaiting their response within a few days.
