Suddenly, the temperature of the entire place plummeted. A suffocating pressure rolled over them like a black tide, making their skin prickle. Some of them, mostly the humans, hissed in pain as the cold invaded their bodies, slithering under their skins and into their marrows like needles of ice.
They all felt as if they had come upon an eerie graveyard and realised they were being watched by something that should never look your way.
Breaths hitched and came out in white fog. Knees weakened and trembled. Hearts didn’t just pound, they dropped in their chests, the way a person’s stomach drops when they stand at the edge of a cliff and feel their body lean forward before their mind can stop it. Some were in a state of shock. The kind that only appears when the body has already accepted death before the mind has processed it.
