Chapter 73
Benjamin leaned forward, his voice cutting through the thick silence.
“What do you mean?” he asked Dennison.
My legs trembled. I pressed my hands against my knees, trying to steady them, but I could feel my whole body shaking.
Dennison’s gaze didn’t move from me. His voice was calm, but his words were sharp enough to slice through my chest.
“Lucy killed your mother,” he said. “And the police could not catch her. She just disappeared. How come?” His eyes slid slowly toward Benjamin. “There must be something others don’t know. So what happened to Lucy?”
My stomach clenched. I could hardly breathe.
Benjamin didn’t blink. His eyes stayed locked on Dennison’s as he leaned in closer, his tone heavy.
“I should ask you that question as well.” He paused, letting the weight of his words hang in the room. “What do you think happened to her? Since the police don’t know, maybe you know about it. Since you’re asking.”
