The words felt heavy. I gripped my knees tighter. “Will I be okay?”
“You can be,” he said. “But it means discipline. Medication, rest, and avoiding stress. No ignoring symptoms. We’ll need to monitor you closely. I’ll prescribe drugs that reduce inflammation and help stabilize your memory. But you must not overwork your mind. No emotional strain if possible.”
I nodded slowly, though my throat burned.
He handed me the prescription. “Take this. Start today. And please, don’t delay. The earlier we treat it, the better your chances.”
I took the papers, my fingers trembling so much that the edges crumpled. “Thank you,” I whispered, though my voice cracked.
I left the office feeling smaller than when I walked in. The papers dug into my palm like a reminder that my life had just changed.
I slid into the car and shut the door, pressing my forehead against the steering wheel for a moment. My pulse was racing.
