“I’m sorry,” she repeated, and I grimaced, embarrassed at my reaction.
“One thing we're not going to do is pretend he isn't still your brother.” She frowned her disapproval, and then sighed heavily.
“I hesitated to do it even,” she explained more gently. “That was until he attempted to murder my best friend. It became necessary."
“It is necessary.” I affirmed, and paused, “Attempted?”
Her gaze was piercing, surprised that I knew anything about the issue.
“Henry tailed you,” I shrugged. “But Dean caught him, and he narrowly managed an escape.”
Her eyes widened, hanging jaw, and finally, with a wince, she looked away with an understanding nod.
“Dean used a kettlebell,” she said in a trembling voice, her gaze averted. “A fucking kettlebell, and just as they were about to wrap his body, Harper whispered my name.” Her mouth went tight around the corn
