Chapter 138. I Gave Them What They Wanted

“Dean told me you’ve got schizophrenia.” Olivia’s voice sliced through the quiet of the car, and impaled my heart like an arrow.

Luckily, my foot was quick to slam on the brake as my hands forcefully steered our car left, to the side of the road. A truck honked past us on the mostly empty road, and my hands fell off the steering wheel as I turned to her.

We silently stared at each other for another second.

“You believed that?” My heart was breaking at the memory of how terrified she was of me that day in the ladies room. How she looked at me like I would attack her any moment, and chop her limbs up.

And it hurt me to think she would believe such a thing.

I guess we will always be strangers after all. The teenager who humiliated her in public, who she couldn't blindly trust, especially when he wasn’t there to defend himself.

I had just taken my foot off the brakes when she said, “Won’t you even ask me why?” Her voice came out confused.
