Chapter 162. Not Today
“We’ll not do that. If you have me chase you in this state, you just might die after all.”
She stopped, and her shoulders fell. “Colt, please.” Her helmet fell to the floor with a clatter, underscored by the boom of thunder that rattled the windows. “I am on your side.”
I chuckled, finishing the whiskey. “This could be either the worst day of your life, or one of the worst days of your life depending on how easy you make it for me.”
I inched forward, stopping just a few feet from her.
“Tell the truth, and don’t make me repeat myself, and I’ll find it real easy.”
I had to tilt my head down to look at her, now that just a few inches separated us. She looked so small and breakable.
She nodded quickly, staring at me with eyes that were beginning to water. But I was not moved. She, of all people, knew how much I hated snitches.
