Chapter 26. A Strange Call
I spent the whole day at Harper’s and stayed out an extra hour blowing bubbles when I got home.
My new home felt strange, looming heavy.
It felt more appropriate somewhere in Europe than on US soil, and I was hesitant to go in.
If this were a normal marriage, I would have suggested we buy a neutral house to make our matrimonial home, rather than live in this one; his parents and Grandparents probably lived in one too.
I finally dusted down the skirt of my pink dress and walked inside.
No one greeted me at the door, and after the front door closed with a merry sound, silence echoed.
Was no one home then?
I suspected the maids were still keeping away after Dean’s outburst earlier.
There was something unsettling in the air, something I couldn’t name, but it made even the echo of my shoes on the wooden floor sound chilling.
I hurried up the stairs to the master's bedroom and pushed the door open.
