Chapter 10

Antonia willed herself to forget the shame she felt over having to sleep with a man in order to have her marriage with him terminated while still maintaining her rights to her inheritance. She was relieved that after then, she would never see him and, as such, she would move on soon and forget her shame.

As she stepped out of the luxurious bath and walked to him, she took deep breaths and told herself that she could do it.

Marc was reclining now on the cushion. His eyes were closed and he seemed to be asleep. She nudged him. She had worn nothing inside the dressing gown which barely covered her breasts.

She had one hand to her chest as he came awake. She felt her pride seep away from her as he opened his eyes to her.

“Antonia,” he said.

He was not asleep. He had only been resting. He walked away from her and headed to the bathroom.

She was almost scared now. What did he intend to do with her? Would he change his mind for any reason?

He would
