Darius’s POV

Etan delivered her message without mincing words. I knew she meant every word, and I have no one else to blame but myself. My mind skipped back to Rodolfo.

“She didn’t say what he was doing there?” I asked Etan, even when I could guess his answer.

“No, she can’t see past her hatred. But at least she’s talking.”

Rodolfo has never been up to any good. But her emotion wouldn’t let her see that.

“Maybe it’s best we sneak her out of the Republic now, before Rodolfo gets into her head.”

“No, anything she’s doing with Rodolfo is out of her free will. She might be human, but she’s smart.”

Smarter than most vampires. Rodolfo can’t get into her head unless she wants him to.

Still, I need to get her out of the Republic before Ajax changes his mind about keeping her alive.
