Chapter 28

An hour before Emily left Alex at the ice cream stand, Tom and Martinez were at home, waiting for the rest of the team to join for the night’s research. After waiting for a few minutes, the first doorbell rang, and Martinez stood up to get the door. She checked and happily opened it, shouting the newcomer’s name aloud.

“Lisa, darling, how are you doing?” Martinez asked, and they hugged each other.

“I am fine. Look at me, coming straight from the hospital. I hope there is dinner; I couldn’t grab one while coming!” Lisa said in a rush as she walked in.

Martinez was amused by how comfortable and loud she was as if it were her own house. Martinez intentionally didn’t make it obvious that the house was Tom’s.

“Martinez, what did you cook?” Lisa asked as she took off her shoes and then her lab coat.
