“How do you feel?” Seraphine kissed Elowyn’s forehead and rubbed her back. They were lying in the bed in Elowyn’s room, a stack of blankets piled on them, and Elowyn snuggled closer to her sister.
“Better. What time is it?”
“I’m not sure. Early morning—the sun is about to rise,” Seraphine replied. “You’ve been asleep for hours.”
“Is Mirella all right?” Elowyn asked.
“She’s fine. In fact, she’s better than fine. Torren stopped by last night and said she had eaten a large dinner and she was running around the living room, trying to goad Alaric into chasing her.”
Elowyn smiled. “Good. Has—has Alaric come by?”
Seraphine shook her head. “No, dearest. I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine.” Elowyn tried to sound cheerful. “There was no reason for him to check anyway. He knew you would take care of me.”
Seraphine smoothed Elowyn’s hair back from her forehead and rubbed the smear of dirt away.
