The cold still clung to my skin, and I hated every bit of it. Even after being let inside, and even after curling up under the thick blankets in my room, I still felt the chill of spending the night outside settling deep in my bones.

Or at least, that was what I told myself. I knew for a fact that it wasn’t just the cold that kept me awake.

It was him.

I pressed my eyes shut, and my brain took that as an automatic message to do a quick recap of this morning. When Matteo had let me inside, only one thought plagued my mind: to get warm again.

I honestly thought I would drift straight to sleep the moment my head came in contact with my pillow, but all I needed to put a pin in my plans was the sound of Alessandro’s voice flickering into my room.

“We don’t have all day.” His voice was slightly muffled, but I heard it all the way from the foyer.
