The footage played back in loops, again and again. Even as my fingers hovered above the keyboard, not moving, my eyes traced every corner of the screen as though I hoped the truth might shift into view if I stared long enough. I had watched these recordings like a desperate man clutching for answers—because in reality, I was. I was desperate enough to know who’s involved, where it started, and more importantly, with whom it was going to end. As it stood, there were no arguments as to who was the target.
I stood motionless in front of the wall of screens. My arms were folded in front of me, my jaw tight, and the room cloaked in the kind of silence that buzzed with unsaid things. Each second ticked forward like an itch under my skin. I had gone through these clips more times than I could count, but tonight, I badly needed to feel in control. I needed the past to speak.
