Chapter 31. My Baby Is Alive!

Evelyn’s POV

“Please let my baby be ok,” I whispered to the moon goddess as I held my boy in my arms. My mother rubbed my back gently and dabbed Ethan’s forehead with a damp cloth.

“This fever is not getting any better, Evelyn.” I heard her say, but I shook my head in denial. There was no way that I was letting myself hear those words.

“Mate will be back soon with the doctor, and the pup will be alright. Believe in Nolan,” Harper suddenly flooded my mind with reassurance. She was correct; Nolan would return with the doctor soon, but I still felt afraid. What if Ethan got worse while we waited? How long was it going to take Nolan to find the doctor? I imagined the whole pack was in need of him.

I cradled Ethan, my heart raced with his laboured breath. The fever was relentless, and no amount of my mother’s soothing words could penetrate the fog of fear that enveloped me. It felt like the weight of the world pressed against my chest, making it hard to br
