Chapter 70
Clara’s POV
I couldn’t believe how envious I felt as I stared at the screen. Lyra’s life was supposed to be in shambles, but everywhere I looked, it only seemed to be getting better. A surge of frustration bubbled up inside me. I scrolled past photo after photo of her and her blissfully smiling husband, and resentment twisted in my chest. Then I paused on one particular image and breathed out his name almost serenely: “Alistair St. Claire.” My lips curved into a satisfied half-smile as I whispered his name as if it were my own small victory.
What should I do now? I thought, my mind racing. I couldn’t just stand by and watch Lyra live the dream I’d paved the way for her. She didn’t deserve any of it—at least, not more than I did. After all, it had been my idea to introduce her to Alistair. She didn’t even know the half of how powerful and well-connected he was. She had no clue about the empire she’d married into.
