Alistair’s POV
I was sitting behind my polished mahogany desk, my eyes fixated on a stack of reports when my assistant’s voice cut through the quiet hum of my office. “Mr. DeWitts is here to see you,” she announced, her tone betraying a hint of nerves I chose to ignore. I lowered my pen and ran a hand through my hair. What could he want this time?
I straightened in my leather chair and said in a measured, emotionless voice, “Send him in.”
Almost immediately, the double doors swung open to admit my father, Mr. DeWitts, flanked by that insufferable Lorenzo Moretti. My pulse tightened. I knew this meant an exhausting session of ultimatums and veiled threats. I heaved a silent sigh, bracing myself for the long day ahead.
