Chapter 78
Lyra’s POV
Soft shafts of dawn light filtered through the slight opening in the curtains, splashing golden hues across the room. I yawned, my limbs stretching out as much as they could while still wrapped in that dreamy pre–waking haze. A firm arm hugged my waist, tethering me against the mattress. My mind was alert, but my body still lingered in sleep’s lingering embrace; my eyelids fluttered closed a moment longer.
When I finally opened my eyes, Alistair’s familiar silhouette came into focus. He lay beside me, his broad chest rising and falling in a steady rhythm. For a few glorious seconds, I savored the warmth and security of his embrace. Then panic jolted through me—my skin pressed against his. I bolted upright as quietly as I could. Damn, I was naked.
I froze, heart pounding. Why was I naked? The realization of last night’s events flashed through me with embarrassing clarity. I pressed my hand to my mouth, cheeks flaming. Every instinct screamed at me
