I couldn’t see Adrian’s face, but I could hear the shift in his tone. Dark. Dangerous. “Watch your mouth, Phoebe.”

Phoebe laughed again, but there was no humor in it. “Why? Are you afraid of what I might say? Or are you afraid of what I might be right about?”

“What exactly are you insinuating? That Amelia and I are having an affair?”

“Oh, please.” Phoebe’s voice turned mocking. “Even if the two of you aren’t, you’re not actually going to stand there and tell me you don’t still have the hots for her.”
