Amelia’s POV
I couldn’t move.
I stood there, rooted to the spot, my arms limp at my sides, my breath stuck somewhere between my lungs and my throat. I tried to tell myself that this couldn’t be real. That this was some awful dream. A twisted, too-vivid nightmare conjured by my guilt and fear. But the blood trailing from Adrian’s mouth from where Liam had punched him was real. The fury radiating off Liam like heat from a wildfire was too real.
No dream had ever burned like this.
Liam looked like he was ready to go to war, fists clenched at his sides, trembling with barely contained rage.
And Adrian? Adrian wasn’t angry. He didn’t look afraid either. His expression was blank. No, not blank. Resigned. Like he’d known, deep down, that this would happen. That it was just a matter of time before the truth cracked through the walls we’d both tried our hardest to keep as high and sturdy as possible.
