I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. My body went still as my mind scrambled for a way to react, to say something, to do anything, but the words wouldn’t come. I couldn’t even form a coherent thought. My mind was overloaded, my heart racing as everything Adrian had just told me crashed down on me in waves. It was too much.
I had spent so long trying to piece together the fragments of our past, holding onto bits of half-truths and lies I had convinced myself I could live with. But now, standing here with the full truth laid bare, I didn’t know what to do. I had thought I was prepared, that I could handle whatever Adrian was going to say, but hearing it was something else entirely.
I wanted to scream at him, to ask him why he never told me sooner, to demand answers for the years I’d spent questioning everything. But nothing came out. I was frozen, suspended in a moment that felt like it was stretching forever.
