We stop in front of the forest so I can enter it outside the carriage. I’m going to let these witches know immediately that Assanan is gone and they need to obey the law now, and I’m not going to do it hollering through a carriage window.

Cassian takes my hand as we walk down the road a few yards. Freyja and Reliquin follow us, and we pause so they can put the crown on my head and hand me the scepter, proof that I have been officially recognized as the monarch.

This leaves the witches no way to doubt my right to rule here.
