Chapter 140. She's out There

Oscar POV

“Earth to Oscar.”

Shaking my head to get myself out of my stupor, I turn to Simon. “Sorry. What?”

He lets out a hearty chuckle, turning away from the wooden frame in front of him, the tool shed I’m supposed to be helping him build. “I was asking if you thought we had this level. But damn, you sure went away there for a bit. What’s got you in dreamland? Finally meet a woman?”

He takes a couple of quick steps back like he expects me to punch him or something, but I have no intention of doing that. He’s on the right track, after all.

“I wish,” I say instead. “I mean, not yet. But something is... different.”

“You feel a mate bond?” he asks, now leaning cross-handed on a wooden post, intrigued.

“I want to say yes, b
