The caravan is moving again, despite our lack of sleep. We can feel the eyes of Assanan’s spies through the trees, and we know that any further delay would just give him more time to ruin more innocent lives.
“Will the warriors be too tired to fight?” I ask Cassian, leaning into his shoulder. Though I’m exhausted, physically and mentally, my nervous tension keeps me wide awake.
“No,” he replies. “Part of our warrior training is to learn how to survive on little to no sleep for days on end, in both wolf and human forms. We never know what trouble we’re going to encounter in the field. Every one of these warriors is in top shape.”
“I don’t doubt that.” I’d seen them fight, and I would never want to be on the receiving end of that level of skill.
