If he'd mistreated her, his wife, why would he treat me any better? The knowledge you and Chen gain about each other will help you establish trust. Not even necessarily trust for a slave relationship. It could be trust about any relationship. You'd want to know he won't do the same thing your ex did; that he'll treat you with kindness and respect, honor your wishes, help you aspire to your hopes and dreams, won't tear you down, and will love you as you deserve."
