It was my turn to nod. I went into the garage and got a tape measure, a pad of paper and mechanical pencil. We might as well get measurements while we talked about whatever was bothering him. I kept the pad and pencil and handed him the tape measure and we strolled across our respective driveways to Lisa's house. I let him in, preceding him into the house.

He started taking measurements, unable to speak about what was bothering him yet. I wrote down whatever he was measuring. Since he couldn't seem to find his tongue, or didn't know how to start, I started.

"I assume the real reason you're here is to ask about Janet and Tuesday night?"
