Chapter 112. Matteo Is Alive

Matteo opened his eyes and blinked at the bright sunlight streaming through the large hospital bay window. His mind was totally blank, and he tried to move his limbs, but they felt like blocks of stone. What was wrong with him?

“Call Dr. Hassan right away. The patient has recovered from a coma after a year!” exclaimed the nurse on duty. Her agitated voice brought Matteo out of his delirium and he again opened his eyes slowly, deliberately.

“Yes, open your eyes slowly,” she coaxed him. Matteo tried to focus his gaze on the nurse beside him.

“Acqua,” he croaked, his mouth too dry. (Water)

The nurse understood, although he spoke in a language she was unaware of. She rushed to get water and held it to his lips when the doctor came in. He checked on Matteo, who watched him with a bewildered and lost look in his eyes.

“How are you feeling? Are you experiencing pain?” asked the doctor.

“No. I just can’t mov
