Chapter 409
The sun was just beginning to dip behind the skyline, painting the city in strokes of amber and rose, when Jessica returned to the mansion. The grand doors opened wide, not to sorrow or tension as they had so many times before, but to a swell of warmth, laughter, and relief.
The foyer glowed with life. Fresh lilies perfumed the air, their pale petals catching the golden light. Vases stood proudly along the staircase, brightening the once somber house. For the first time in weeks, the mansion felt alive again, as though the very walls sighed in joy at her return.
The maids lined the entrance, their faces beaming with genuine happiness. Some clapped, others dabbed at their eyes. Arianna walked in at Jessica’s side, her arm linked firmly with hers, steadying her every careful step. Matthew followed close behind, clutching Jessica’s small hospital bag like it was treasure.
