Chapter 107. Craving Something New

“Right this way, detectives.” The housekeeper said, her voice calm as she led Ben and Carolanne out of the living room in the opposite direction their hosts had gone.

Carolanne glanced back, her eyes lingering on the direction Hayden had disappeared with Myla in his arms. The image still sat uneasily in her chest.

Myla had looked… distant. Ben noticed her looking backwards and misinterpreted. “What’s wrong? You don’t want to stay here?”

Carolanne shook her head, slowing down. “You really think she’s okay? She looked… still. Like someone who had gone somewhere far away and hadn’t quite found her way back yet.”

“She’ll be fine,” he said quietly, keeping his voice low as they walked.

“She looked bad. Really bad.” Carolanne said quietly.

“She looked exhausted,” Ben correct
