Chapter 1
Alexa's POV
The taxi stops by the side of the road, right at 7 Scent Avenue. I pull my luggage from the boot of the car, raising my eyes to the beautiful house. I was told by the manager of the agency I work for that it belonged to just one family.
Coming from the Beline Pack to the Avelon Pack is quite an uneasy task with the heavy traffic and not-so-good roads in some spots. On my own, I would have loved to stay and work in my pack, but I had no choice when I was selected for the role of nanny to the baby of seven baby daddies. I suppose they had a mate and perhaps something happened to her.
Even if nothing else screamed luxury, the pay alone—eight thousand dollars a week—was enough to tell me this was a wealthy family. Being chosen for this job was a privilege. I needed at least two hundred thousand dollars for my brain tumor surgery. I had only two years left and a possible chance of survival if I underwent the surgery. This made me jump at the offer the moment my boss assigned me to this role. I didn’t care where I was being taken; all I needed was money. As I approached the address given to me, my attention drifted to the identity of these baby daddies. I hadn’t been this curious before.
I was asked by my manager to dress officially, so I put on a royal-blue fitted gown reaching my knees and a pair of black heels. My hair is straightened, falling down my back just above my ass. I applied a little makeup to give me a glow. I didn’t want to look seductive, since I was going for work, and there was still a chance of being rejected by the clients even after being selected by the agency. I was cautious—I’m working to fight for my life. I can’t be careless.
Aside from my luggage, I have my black handbag with me—typical of a young twenty-three-year-old nanny like me.
"You need to look confident, put up a slight smile when you meet them, and show yourself capable. Otherwise, you could be sent back even after passing the eligibility criteria." I remember my manager’s words before I began my journey.
“Glitz Care is a top care agency supplying the best nannies to families all over the world, so you must represent our brand well.” These words never leave my head. I memorize them as I walk to the address.
I was told to arrive by 8 AM, so I left my pack at 6 AM. Peering at my watch, it’s 7:40 AM. I’m a few minutes early.
I brace myself, taking a deep breath as I walk through the entrance of this huge estate by the side of the road. My mind replays Lucy’s advice about how I should behave.
I walk toward the reception to introduce myself as the new nanny—perhaps there’s a permit to get. I take this into consideration; it could be one of those formalities.
I meet a young lady, probably in her early thirties. She’s dressed in a white shirt and a fitted black skirt. I can’t see her shoes from behind the desk, but I guess she’s wearing black heels.
"Good morning, Alexa."
I widen my eyes slightly as she says my name. She smiles at my expression. "I know you’re surprised I know your name, but since you were accepted, your resume has been with us, even with the Alphas you’ll be working with—"
My eyes flare open. It hits her too at that moment. The family’s identity is supposed to be kept secret until you meet them.
My brows arch and I lean closer, gaze fixed on her. "But… which Alphas?" My lips part as I stare.
Did I just hear Alphas?
Seven Alphas?
All I had in mind was an ordinary family, not some fucking Alphas. I know it seems like I’m already rejecting the job, but everyone knows how Alphas can be—possessive, arrogant, and cold, especially toward Omegas like me. She shakes her head with a slight grin and taps on her system.
"I'm not supposed to tell you. You’re here, so you’ll know. That was just a slip of the tongue."
I quickly pull out my phone and search Alphas of the Avelon Pack. I’d never cared much to research this pack; in fact, nothing about it concerned me—except for the fact that my celebrity crush belonged here.
Dustin Bennett is the famous leader of the pop boy band 7Rocks, named for the seven members. I’ve had a crush on him since high school and once wished to marry him. I learned he has six identical brothers, and he’s the second oldest.
Whatever controversy surrounds him—some people claim he’s transgender—doesn’t matter to me. In the werewolf world, there’s no scientific way to change one’s gender. It must have been the Moon Goddess’s doing, through rebirth or evolution. No one really knows much about him or his brothers outside the Avelon Pack. I’d say this is the most secretive pack in the world.
For a second, my thoughts drift, but like a film fading, my sight drops back to my phone screen. Seven gorgeous men are lined up on the screen. My jaw drops when I realize they all share the same face as my pop idol.
