Chapter 4. Level Up

After minutes of struggling to free themselves from the sofa, Scott and Sasha finally gave up. They fixed their eyes on Nyx who had come to lecture them both for the task ahead. Nyx stood to her feet and then started pacing up and down the guest room. After some minutes, she turned to Scott. “Did you know why you were hovering in the air?”

Scott thought for a few seconds, he did not have any idea what Nyx was talking about. A moment ago he was suspended in the air with flashes of lighting covering him. “I have no idea why I was suspended in the air if that is what you mean.”

“Very well then, but you should be aware of certain abilities you now possess. If you do not recognize these abilities in you, you may not be able to use them well. But do not worry; I am here to help you get…”

Scott still wants to know what Nyx wants in return. Without letting Nyx finish, he cuts in sharply pushing her words back to her throat. “I still don’t get it. Why are you doing all this and what is it you want in return?”

Nyx moves closer to Scott and brings her face closer to his, “Do you know what it means when hell is let loose on Bailey County, huh? If you keep playing smart asshole instead of listening and learning, that’s what’s going to happen, and with what Jasmine told me, you so much love this county that you won’t let that happen, right?” After she had said this, she moved back to her former position and then leaned on the wall, and continued, “What happened to you a few moments ago was a display of your ‘Hovering Ability.’”

Levitating is a supernatural ability that can enable a being to float in the air. Many beings who possess this ability often use it to get away from their enemies when attacked. They don’t need any spells or enchantments to activate this ability. It just requires active use and practice.

“This is insane! Is this the only ability I possess that you want me to master?”

Scott was expecting something more powerful than hovering like what he had seen in many movies. If levitating is just the ability Nyx has gifted him, he does not need it. He wants something more powerful rather than just floating in the air as he thought.

“One thing with mortals is they want to possess powers they can’t will. I will only let you know of a few powers you have and let you figure out the rest yourself.”

“I am all ears!”

Before Nyx could continue, Sasha had to throw a question that had been bothering her. She’s already losing patience and wants to do something else rather than staying in a room with the goddess of the night. “I still don’t know why I am here and what role I am to play.”

“When I am done with him, I will show you what you must do!” said Nyx as she switched back her attention on Scott. “You are eager to learn more of the power you possess. Have you heard of the ability called ‘Shield force?’”

Scott adjusts on the sofa; he suddenly realized that he can move his ass but Nyx's question made him wonder. He decided to be calm and find out more about the abilities he possesses. “No, I have not,” he replied.

“Shield force is a barrier like a shield. The ability is used to shield away any incoming attacks. This ability is very rare and is only possessed by a few supernatural beings. Shield force when activated has many shapes depending on the being wielding a force field.” In the past, Nyx has electrified her shield force. This can be used to zap an enemy away.

“This is cool. Can you teach me how to use it?”

“I will but right now, you have to know another major ability I have placed in you.”

“Fire on, I am all ears.”

As a Deputy in the Sheriff’s department, Scott has wished he had supernatural powers in other to get the bad guys easily. It is now clear that his wish has become a reality.

‘“Lightning blast’ is one of the best powers I have used to conquer my enemies and I have bestowed it on you. Lightning blast is the ability to blast an enemy with lightning.”

This ability is often triggered by anger or fear and is always seen as an offensive power that can be used to get rid of an enemy without much stress. Many beings have been making use of this power to get rid of their enemies and if possessed by a mere mortal, the mortal will be considered a god amongst men.

Scott seems to have heard enough, he just wants to get into action and skip all the talking; he quickly rises to his feet. “I am done listening; it’s time for some actions!”

“Very well then, suit up for your next task.”

“I’m damn ready for the task, so what’s the task let’s get on with it?”

“Find your girlfriend Ivy and kill her!”

“What the hell are you talking about? Is this some kind of joke or what?” Scott frowns at Nyx. It’s rude to dishonor the memory of the dead, the goddess should know that. Everyone in the castle knew she was dead and was killed by Hannah.

However, Scott was left spellbound when Nyx approached him and whispered in his ear, “She’s not dead. She’s alive.”

“This is bullshit!” Scott slammed open the door as he walked out on Nyx.

Sasha stood to her feet and then stared down at Nyx. She didn’t know what to believe and had no idea Lydo was still alive. She summoned courage and approached Nyx. “Do you speak the truth?” Sasha asked.

“Many mortals may consider me evil but one thing I’m not is a liar.”

“How did this happen?”

“Wrong question.”

“What do you mean?”

“Another wrong question.”

“I’m confused.”

“Nah! You shouldn’t because this is where you come in. If your mortal friend fails to kill his girlfriend, you have to do it yourself.”

“And if I refuse?”

“Then you will never have him to yourself. She will walk back to his life and you will be left with nothing. Think again. Lydo imposes a great threat now and must be gotten rid of if you truly care for your new lover.” Nyx moved to the window making her way into her chariot, Sasha stared still confused. She saw Lydo’s dead body after Jasmine called her in to help move Scott’s body. The mess that happened in the log cabin is just becoming a mystery.

Meanwhile, Scott made his way to the great hall with the motive of interrupting the vampires' meeting. As he got there he only saw Jasmine. The rest of the vampires have gone back to their base to carry out Jasmine’s instruction. He quickly grabbed Jasmine and held her against the table. “I was taught well not to hit a lady but you have forced my hands. Why did you lie to me Lydo is dead?”

“Nobody lied to you, Deputy Mann. You lied to yourself. You saw her die; I didn’t tell you that, did I?”

Jasmine is certain of one thing, Scott saw Lydo killed and no one told him she was killed. He witnessed it and can’t deny it.

Scott slowly unhands Jasmine. He was left with a lot of thoughts going through his mind. He couldn’t let his thoughts have the bad side of him, so he glanced at Jasmine. “How come she’s alive?”

“Her death was staged.”

“And you’re just telling me now?”

“We just found out.”

“How on hell did it happen? I saw her killed!”

“Hannah asked one of her vampires in disguise as a doctor to inject Lydo with a vampire’s blood when she visited the clinic.”

Before Scott and Lydo visited the log cabin, Lydo was down with a fever so she had to visit the clinic downtown not knowing that she had been a target of the rogue vampires. Her death was all staged. Just like Scott who had vampire blood running through his veins before he was killed and was later revived. The same fate has visited Lydo whom Scott believed to be dead.

“And you are just telling me now?”

“We just found out.”

“I am going to find her and you better stay off my path,” said Scott as he angrily turned. He can’t be here and the love of his life is out there thinking he’s dead.

“Scott you can’t save her. It’s too late for that now.”

“I don’t care!” Scott makes his way to the door and as he is about to grab the door handle, Jasmine moves faster than the eye could see.

She quickly grabbed Scott’s hand, “She has been turned and all we can do now is to kill her.”

On her revival, Hannah didn’t want to take her chances, so she decided to turn Lydo and use her as one of her great weapons that can cause havoc to the entire Bailey County.

“I don’t care and I’m going to find her.”

“You will put us all at risk and jeopardize what we spent years fighting for.”

“Without me, there won’t be any victory, so let me go and find her if you still want me to join in your quest.”

“I won’t let you do that.”

“Suit yourself!” said Scott as he snapped Jasmine’s neck.

He learned this trick from Sasha. You can snap a vampire’s neck when you don’t want to kill the vampire. It will only put the vampire in an unconscious state and most of the time the vampire will be stuck in a very agonizing dream during the unconscious state. This is the easiest way Scott could think of to get rid of Jasmine from stopping him.

He makes his way to the garage at the back of the castle. He wasn’t surprised seeing Sasha leaning on one of the Lexus Jeep. “Are you here to stop me?” he asked.

“Why would I do that? We are partners now and I will help you find your girl.”

Sasha didn’t want Scott to go through the pain of the past alone. She wants to be there to help him find comfort in her even though he’s going to be reunited with his girlfriend Lydo.

“I will be driving.”

“Aye Aye Captain Scott.” Sasha saluted Scott as she made her way to the passenger’s side and gently opened the door.

“Do you have any idea where we will be looking?” Scott asked as he inserted the key into the ignition. He’s desperate to find Lydo and reunite with her even though she’s now a vampire as claimed by Jasmine. He didn’t want to lose her for the second time. He has spent most of his time blaming himself for her death and he wants to make it up to her to be around her again.

“I know a place where we can look but it’s quite dangerous.”

“No, with my abilities, I’m dangerous.” Scott grinned as his eyes turned red.
