Behind Velvet Doors: 3. The First Summons

By Monday, Isobel had decided she was going to stop thinking about the Headmistress.

It wasn’t working. Instead, it got worse. She felt she must be going insane. 

The more she told herself to focus on classes, the sharper the pull became. A glance down the hall, a faint whiff of jasmine when she passed the faculty offices—each one drew her mind back to those cool grey eyes.

She lasted exactly two days before the inevitable happened.

It was the middle of literature period when a note slid onto her desk, passed by a hand she didn’t recognize. She unfolded it under the table.

"Office. Now!"

No signature, but the ink was the same precise, dark stroke as the note in the library. She knew or thought she knew who the note must be from. Her heart started thumping toward the door. Could it be this time? But she couldn't even begin to imagine what it could be. But that was okay, the thrill was in not knowing. She was going to find out soon anyways.&nbs
