The weekend came with a hush that felt deceptive.

Friday night slipped past without a summons. Saturday morning dawned clean and bright, sunlight cutting across Rose’s small apartment like a reminder that the world outside the Velvet Room still existed. She made tea. She painted her nails. She tried to pretend the silence was hers to savor.

Every vibration of her phone felt like a spark against her nerves. Every car door outside made her chest hitch. She hated it—hated that she was pacing in her own skin, restless without his voice, without his grip.
