Chapter 79
Winter’s POV
The flickering flames of the fire danced before me. I stared into it; the crackling embers had taken on a life of their own. They whispered faintly and urged me to come nearer. The voices of the past, memories intertwined with sorrow and longing in the recesses of my mind. They beckoned me and promised solace and answers in their warmth.
I staggered forward, one step at a time, unsteadily as though an enigmatic force was drawing me in.
The room blurred, and the line between reality and imagination blurred along with it. I reached out tentatively, my trembling hand inching closer to the searing heat of the flames.
I felt the warmth as it had promised and I giggled from both madness and melancholy, and I found a strange, bittersweet comfort in that.
The room around me receded into obscurity, and all that remained was the fire, its fervent whispers soothing my wounded soul.
