“There’s something on your mind, Keira. Do you want to talk about it?”

I nodded, allowing myself to fall to his husky and patronising voice and as he placed his hands on the small of my back, I could have sworn that I felt currents pass through my spine.

Clint led me into the living room, his pace neither hurried nor slow, just steady and calm. There was something comforting in the way he moved, as if he was giving me space to think but also keeping me grounded, ensuring I wasn’t alone in my thoughts.

"Sit here," he said, his voice soft, but with an underlying certainty. "I’ll get you something quick to eat while we talk."
