Chapter 8
“What about Rebecca and Isla?” Leo asked.
It felt strange asking about people he’d never met. Elena had told him an awful lot about them. She rolled her eyes and gestured to Fabian, who showed no awkward emotion.
“Well, they aren’t around. They went to visit a relative but will be back before the week runs out,” his father said.
Leo hoped it was just an attitude problem with Rebecca and not a gold-digging agenda, as Elena had mentioned. But he also knew his father was no fool. He wasn’t a man one could easily deceive, let alone dupe. His father would destroy them if he eventually learned they were playing him.
“I want to take a shower,” Leo said. His father had always been given to sassy and stubborn women, he thought.
“I’ll join you guys for lunch when I’m done showering.”
He decided against taking the elevator and made his way up the white marble stairs. He’d always preferred taking the stairs and recalled, like he always did whenever he was hom
