“Let’s break up,” Lana said flatly, her tone low. “You can do whatever you want. Just leave me out of it,” she mumbled.
“No, don’t say that, Lana. Do you know what that will do to me?”
His fierce blue eyes were suddenly fogged by fear.
“I don’t care, Fabian. Just look at what being with you is doing to me,” she cried bitterly.
He drew away from her, scared that she would push him away if he tried to come closer to her.
“I’m sorry, my love,” he said. He wished he could change the situation with a snap of his finger.
“I know I hurt you. But I have to keep her thinking that I’m on her side. It’s the only way our plan can work.”
Lana cried the more.
“A little slip on my part may get her suspicious about me, and that’s why I try hard to keep her trust. Do you know what her father would do to us if our affair came to light? You know he’s as ruthless as they come.”
