Chapter 54

"Do I have to ask? I think it was obvious that I wanted to talk to you, Rhys," Daniel looks at me distressed, as if he's acting wrongly, but I can't help feeling a little betrayed and isolated. I don't feel like we're friends, for whatever reason. Daniel and I should distance ourselves for a while.
"I'm not a mind reader."
"Do you have a few minutes to spare for me?" he insists, and I nod my head.
I get up from my chair and tell Ryan to wait for a few seconds. I came to eat with him because I needed to vent to someone who had nothing to do with the Moore's environment. I'm tired of it, of their world, their rules, and what it takes to be a part of it. If I could, I would disappear for a while without looking back.
We go out to the rooftop of the café, and my best friend leans on the railing with his left arm, staring off into nothingness in silence, not knowing what to say.
