Hope stared at the full moon from the window of her house, her heart heavy with grief. It was the day her son would be executed, and she swayed on her feet as she looked out toward the road, hoping she could see the square from where she was and praying she didn’t see them.

Zach wrapped his hand around her waist and tucked his head into the crook of her neck. “Hope, there is nothing we can do. Tobias is hellbent on making our son the scapegoat.”

She whimpered, turning and burying her face in his chest. “I know, but that doesn’t stop the grief in my heart.”

He nodded and ran his hand down her hair, patting it down. “Hopefully, the werewolves would attack before they kill our boy, and the whole town would see for themselves that he is not a killer.”
