Chapter 67
The Glutton’s screams of agony filled the room as the holy water burned it. The tiny vessel filled with smoke and enough holy water to annihilate the demon entirely, destroying its only link to earth. The vessel eventually became so hot that the inner glass cracked, causing the rest of the holy water to flood inside.
Satisfied that the demon was properly disposed of, Lily clapped her hands as if dusting them off. When she turned to face Ingrid, her eyes shifted from brown back to red.
“How?” asked Ingrid breathlessly. “You lied to him.”
“Did I?” Lily’s lips twisted into a malevolent grin. “What would have possessed me to do that?”
“That’s what it seemed like.” Ingrid thought back over the conversation. She couldn’t spot a single loophole in their agreement that would have allowed Lily to destroy the demon.
“You said you trusted me,” Lily replied.
“Yeah, I do.” Ingrid shook her head. “I’m… just really surprised is all. How did you do it?”
