Theo’s POV
The four-hour ride back was hell. About two miles into it, my bike decided to betray me. It never breaks. Not once in the years I’ve owned it has it given me this kind of attitude, but today? Today of all days, it just stopped. Died on the side of the road like it had lost the will to live.
I nearly cried. I mean it. I stood on the roadside, helmet tucked under my arm, just staring at the damn thing like it had kicked me in the ribs.
Mark is officially cursed. That’s what I decided. His bad energy clung to me like smoke, and now my bike’s suffering for it. If it had broken before I got to the prison, I might have taken that as a sign to turn around. But it waited. It waited until after I saw him, after I let him see what real fear looked like. So, fine. I’ll take it as a win.
