Mason’s POV

She really does seem calmer now. Maybe it’s just because Theo isn’t around to rile her up with his chaotic energy and smug grins, or maybe it’s something more than that. There’s a softness in her shoulders I hadn’t noticed before, something settled. Or maybe she’s just finally had a few minutes to breathe.

I want to find her mom. Not the one who gave birth to her, the one she lost, but the woman who stepped in and gave her a family afterward. The one who Mark pushed out of Harper’s life when things started tightening around her. Harper says they all left her, that her friends gave up on her and her mother did too, but I don’t buy that. Not fully. I think some part of her knows deep down that it wasn’t that simple, that maybe Mark made it impossible for them to stay.

I glance at her, curious. “How do you know the word ‘Rigger’?”
