Nathan’s POV
Her voice is barely more than a whisper when it finally comes. She shifts against me slightly, her hand grasping at my chest like she’s anchoring herself there. I stay still, holding her, letting the quiet stretch out between us until she’s ready. I can't rush her, if I do she will shut down, she needs to be ready in her own time to tell me.
“There was this hospital,” she says, her breath shaky but words clear. “Everything was white. Too white. The kind that hurts your eyes and makes you feel like you’re not really there.”
I don’t interrupt her. I don’t say it’s just a dream or that it’s over. I just keep holding her, my hand brushing gently against her back, listening to her words, and reassuring her that she can tell me, that I won't judge or react to it.
