Summer’s POV

“Good evening, Missus Carter! After checking, it was confirmed that Mister Carter had departed the company early, as he was feeling unwell.”

As I anxiously fiddled with my fingers and nervously nibbled on my lower lip, I listened intently to the dial tone on the other end of the line. It was already midnight, and Steven hadn’t reached out to me since he left the house. Concerned, I decided to call the front desk for any updates. Unfortunately, Steven wasn’t answering any of my calls, and when I attempted to reach out to Brandon, he, too, was unresponsive.

‘What is happening?’

“Alright, thank you. If ever he called the office, make sure to call me immediately.”

“No worries, Missus Carter.”

As the call came to an end, my eyes stayed fixated on the screen, longing for it to illuminate with a new incoming call.
