It’s the evening of the next day.
Mom arrives with the kids. Aurora’s not with them. “She had some work to finish,” Mom explains.
The doctor comes in shortly after, checking my vitals one last time.
“Well,” he says, pulling off his gloves, “everything looks good. You’re stable, and healing well. Just be sure to rest, and don’t skip your check-up next week.” He hands Mom a small slip. “These will help ease the pain while your shoulder heals.”
Mom thanks him sincerely. The kids bounce with excitement at the news.
“Finally!” Scarlett blurts out. “Mom will be out of the hospital. I’ve never liked it here anyway.”
Her little voice makes me laugh. It’s true. She’s hated hospitals since she was a baby—even the mention of one made her cry.
The room bursts into soft laughter. Even the doctor chuckles.
“Well then,” he says, turning to her with a kind smile. “Try not to be sick, okay? That way you won’t have to come back.”
