Chapter 197

Aria

She crouches over Lucas, grabs a fistful of his hair, and yanks his head back roughly. My breath catches in my throat.

“What are you doing?” I scream, trying to push myself off the ground, but my limbs tremble too much to hold my weight. “Let him go! Please!”

Jane doesn’t listen. Instead, she punches Lucas across the face with the full force of her rage. His head snaps to the side, blood flying from his lip. She hits him again. And again. Over and over. I scream until my voice cracks, begging her to stop, but she doesn’t hear me…or maybe she just doesn’t care.

“Let him go!” I cry out, my hands digging into the dirt as I try to crawl forward. My vision swims, and frustration bubbles in my chest. I summon my power, but nothing comes. It’s like trying to scream underwater.
