As I step out and close it behind me, I find them all waiting just outside. Their eyes are on me immediately.
“You guys…” I begin, my voice hoarse and thick from crying.
“We couldn’t just leave you in there,” Mia says gently, stepping closer. Her expression is soft but concerned. “We had to make sure you were okay.”
“Thank you… really,” I tell them, exhaling a tired breath. “But right now, I’m starving.”
Lily smiles and loops her arm through mine, tugging me forward carefully. “Come on. Asora said once you woke up, you’d be hungry. You used almost all your energy, so it makes sense.”
I nod, grateful for the support, but I stop abruptly in the hallway, my feet frozen in place. A wave of unease creeps over me.
“What is it?” Lily asks, pausing beside me.
“I can’t feel Gail,” I whisper, my brows furrowing as panic pricks at my chest. “I can’t feel my wolf.”
