Chapter 38. ‘No’ Day Today

Wren POV

A Week Later.

“…I know, Hannah, of course, I remember.” Ezra’s low chuckle reaches my ears as I hover behind the kitchen door.

Peeking, I see him seated while he plays with a bottle of water. He’s shirtless, hair damp from our fighting lessons, and body angled slightly away from the door.

Yes, after much debate, he had finally agreed to the fighting lessons but completely dunked the gun lessons.

He snorts into the phone. “I’ve got you. I’ll definitely be there, okay?” Then, his eyes soften, a wistful smile on his lips, “I love you, baby. So much.”

It’s not the first time eavesdropping on his conversation. And I wish I could say it’s the first time he’s speaking to this ‘Hannah’ but I’d be wrong.

With a frown on my face, I walk in, heading straight to the refrigerator to get a bottle of water.

“Hey, Beth, I’ll call you later, okay?” He says, and raises a brow at me as he hangs up. “Birdie, how’re you doing?”
