Chapter 368. Frightening Reconciliation
Veronica Ambrose
Mera opens her door, accepting the lantern, as does Caen, Avery, and Zillah too. I can't quite move; I'm glued to my spot. As the doors open and shut, all I want to do is cry out. Somehow I made it into my room. Throwing my blanket over my head, I place the lantern beside me as I'm still gripping it.
"It's okay. You'll be okay," I repeat these words religiously, whispering them to myself as if they were a mantra. I wish they were here. I wish Chantel and Zave were here. I need them more than I need anything or anyone else. The cold air keeps hitting my skin; I'm freezing, my windows are all still open. I don't have the courage to get up to close them; I can't do it. I curl my toes, trying to warm myself up but it's not working. And my tears are seriously not helping. They only make things worse for me.
"Stop crying, Veronica."
"You're a disappointment."
