Chapter 38. Very Young

He seems very young, around fourteen or fifteen. He even resembles my Izaac.
"Can he do this on his own?" I ask Lexcis, my eyes narrowing at his distant expression.
"Yeah," he absentmindedly replies, his attention elsewhere.
"What's gotten into you?" I ask when I notice his sour face.
"Nothing."
"Maybe that's the problem," I joke, but he doesn't laugh. "Oh, come on!"
I scoff, "So, it's only funny when you joke?"
"Exactly," he says, walking past me toward the carriage and jumping in. His one-word answers are already annoying me.
I decide to check on young Izaac before joining Lexcis.
"I think you should go grab a coat before we leave. It's pretty cold where we're going. And perhaps a blanket or some tea to keep yourself warm," I suggest to Izaac, trying to make him comfortable.
